Embrace Winter in the water with Mystic

We thought it might be worth dropping a little blog post in about winter and the water. There are many fair weather kite and wake guys and gals but also many heroes that carry on riding all through the winter. How do they do it? Do they have super human warming qualities or do they “Embrace Winter” arriving and understand the quality of good winter wetsuits and accessories that let you get out there more and comfortably.

We have stocked Mystic suits and accessories for many seasons now as they seem to us to offer the best quality and specialist features for our use kitesurfing and wakeboarding! Mystic did a in depth article on their new range for winter 2016/17 and you can read it here. But we thought it would be good to cut the excess out and highlight and give you the key information about the new winter products and wetsuits this season that are important to us!

There is the Legend and Legend X which are the top of the line suits from Mystic with quickdry lining and new seam construction. But for us as we are not often riding in Scotland we are generally super happy with the Mystic Majestic suit which is the 5/3 model that shares much of the construction and materials with the Legend but saves a bit of cost with the standard fluffy warm winter liner rather than the quick dry version. The 5/3mm Majestic wetsuit this season has had a bit of a refresh with new colours and modified front zip style to make it easier to get in and out. The Majestic has the top of the line stretchy neoprene with warm fluffy “teddyprene” liners to keep you warm. Also there are internal stretch taped seams to keep the flush water out of the suit and warmth inside.

If you are after a top level suit at a bargain price then we also still have some of last season’s colours in the majestic which can still give you an awesome suit at great price!

Dropping down the range this year the mystic 5/4 star suit has also seen some great upgrades and is an awesome priced and spec suit that looks super cool too! This is an over the head winter suit that is a bit easier entry than the single zip ones. Also the 5mm Star wetsuit has critical taping and GBS sealing (Glued Blind Stitch) so is still quite good at keeping the flush to a minimum.

The ladies have also seen some upgrades to the winter suit range with the new Mystic Diva 5mm Winter Wetsuit sporting some super cool colours and having the same spec as the mens Majestic suit the Diva is super high spec and with the traditional back zip is super comfortable and easy to get on and off.

The new Mystic Dutchess 5/4 Winter Wetsuit also has some really top level features and a great value price. Great looking, super warm and flexible wetsuit who want to brave the winter (or colder spring/autumn days). With top level features like the critical taping, GBS and Aquaflush leg drainers it has the specs to keep you warm and comfortable on the coldest days.

So you have a nice warm wetsuit to keep you warm but also in the deepest of winter then there are other accessores that can be super useful. The neoprene beanies are now taking over from many hood users who prefer the look and practicality of the beanie. Several styles of boots and gloves are also available and quite different to the “surf brands” gear as Mystic is all built to give board feel on kiteboard pads and usability of hands with a bar and lines.

The other area we have had a lot of sales and customer complements are the layers you can add to your outfit to give an extra level of wind protection and warmth in winter. The storm and voltage sweats both are lighter than a battle jacket and you can happily ride and rig in them without feeling too overweight. The traditional battle jackets and windstoppers are still there but don’t quite look as cool.

We would all love to spend more time on the water but with shorter days, work, family and not always the right conditions coming together with your time off then sometimes we have to spend time away from the water. Well Mystic have got some amazing stylish hoods and sweats that show you live the water lifestyle on and off the water. As much attention to detail goes into the clothing line as the technical and the next year Mystic catalogue is always grabbed by us when it drops in store for the order!
