With over £600 worth of prizes to give away, including three scooters, Saturday the 11th of May was going to be a kick ass day at ATBShop SkateWarehouse Skatepark.
The MX Scooter team arrived early so they could join in with the Parents Club (10’s and under) on Saturday. They went into the park and started teaching the kids the basics. They also did some little demos for the kids which everyone really enjoyed.
The MX Pro team didn’t just arrive on their own, they also turned up with their MX Crew and photographer and events team- They were truly ready for us.
The events team started booking everyone in for the MX Scooter competition which would see three lucky talented scooter kids win a t-shirt and scooter each.
There were three subcategory, 10 and under, under 14’s and Pro’s. There was also a chance for one lucky person to become part of the MX Crew so the pressure was on.
There was a quick chance for everyone to go into the park for a warm up before the competition. The MX Pro Team and Crew team blasted around the park showing off all the expertise.
Then the MX Pro and Crew team pulled out their giant bean bags onto the top of the ramps and everyone pilled into the warehouse to watch the competition. The competition even in the 10’s and under category’s was fierce with the kids pulling “Bri’s” and 180’s to name but a few tricks. Everyone was blown away.
Everyone in the Warehouse was cheering the 10’s and under’s on as they all hit the ramps at once in a huge display. The MX Team weren’t just looking for awesome tricks but for style and clean landing’s.
After the 10’s and unders we moved into the next category. The was a lot more competition in the 14’s and under. The kids were going in big. Frankie Allen really stood out pulling some massive tricks we were told, so our fingers were crossed for him as he is one of regulars at the park.
After the under 14’s we moved into the Pro category. This was a massive deal for some of our riders as this was a chance to become part of the MX Crew. Team rider Ira Rumble-Low was pulling massive tricks like “can-vert bris” and “feeble 270 bri outs”. Other riders such as Josh Haskayne and Jack P were going all out big but another rider called Jacob seemed to be stealing the show. This was going to be a tough decision for the MX Crew and Team.
After the competition the MX Team and Crew hung around and joined in with a giant scooter “Jam” in the park while the results were being matched up. They also did a huge signing, giving away loads free signed posters.
Then everyone pilled back into the park for the winners to be announced. The winner of the 10’s and unders was Alfie Mann! He was such a tiny rider, at well under 4f. When his name was called out everyone in the crowd went mental for him. Then Frankie Allen’s name was called out as a winner for the Micro XT Extreme. He came first in the under 14’s category, again sending the crown mental. Then the crowd went quiet as everyone listened out for the winner of the Pro comp. This of course would be a big deal for one of our riders as they won’t just win a scooter but also win a place on the MX Crew. This was a really hard competition to judge as everyone who took part was of a really high standard. In the end Jacob Smith scooped the 1st position bagging himself a new scooter and a place on the MX Crew team!
After prize giving they all blasted back into the park for a huge throw out! If you were there, you’d see it was metal as kids jumped to grab scooter lights, stickers, bells and t-shirts etc.
Just before home time we did have a bad accident in the park where one of our locals took a bad stack and ended up going off in an ambulance. Everyone in the park was really worried for Connor Wilson as he left on a stretcher. The park was cleared and everyone waited patiently in the shop until he was stretchered off. As he came through the shop everyone started to clap and cheer at him – wishing his a speedy recovery. Connor spent a night in hospital on morphine and was let out the next day on crutches with a twisted knee and bad bruising. Connor on this occasion was really lucky but it just goes to show how important wearing a helmet really is.
All in all the day was a massive success with loads of prizes won. All the parents and scooter kids said it was one of the BEST events they’d ever been to.. The MX Scooter team had been so generous to us all here at the Warehouse and for that we are very thankful.
Cheers MX Pro team and crew, we will see you all again very soon!
