2017’s Urban Rider Games seemed to flow flawlessly this year, with around 120 contestants entering – Our biggest turn out yet!
Top Pro judges from all across the industry made our judging panel of 4 experts – Jordan Clark, World Scooter No.1, Lewis Williams, European Scooter Champion, Matt Brind Nitro Circus and UK and World Mountain board Champion plus Liam from Camp Rubicon (Scooter, skate and BMX camps) All of whom made the event fair and exciting. These guys had us sat on the edge of our seats.
The judge’s faces really summed up the event as the tricks, which were being thrown down were of such a high standard, with riders pushing their abilities and boundaries. Sometimes it was too close to call with judges divided on who should go through meaning riders had to go “head to head” in a best trick sudden death extra round.
This worked well but had the audience on their toes A Share of over £3,000 worth of prizes were after all up for grabs thanks to our kind sponsors. Scooter parts and apparel from District, Apex, Crisp, Grit, Blunt and Fasen. BMX helmets, apparel and grips thanks to ODI and TSG. Skateboard parts and apparel thanks to Almost, Mini logo, Venture, PlanB, SkateMaffia, Fracture, Real, ZooYork, Primative, Lakai and Grizzly. We even had GoPro accessories and cameras to give away thanks to GoPro. JellyBelly even provided 4th place prizes and throw-out.
A massive amount of generous freebies from all our sponsors for all our spectators made the event and kept the audiences hyped throughout. Throw-outs from JellyBelly, Vans, District, Fasen, Grit, GoPro and Madd made the event truly unique and one our audience wont forget. We even managed to make 70 goodie bags to give away to riders!
Special thanks to Luke and Nikita from Vans in the outlet Swindon, without whom, we just couldn’t have run the event without. They organised our winners, judges, and prizes and also sorted some pretty generous goodie bags out. Their donation of time towards this event is also a true mark to how much Vans support extreme sports in the UK and how dedicated their truly staff are.
We also had a live GoPro workshop in the park during the day meaning our riders could film themselves in action across the day. GoPro were on hand to help with questions support. Special thanks for all the free water and fruit provided by Morrison’s – regent circus. It was so refreshing to see all the young riders eating fruit and drinking water rather than rubbish. “Morrison’s made us proud!”
We also need to drop a massive thank you to Hills and Green Square who without their finically donations we wouldn’t be able to have run the Urban Rider Games. It costs around £3,000 to put on an event like this. Giving away T-Shirts, staff, flyers, posters, marketing, Live DJ, hotel rooms, banners, food etc all adds up. Without volunteers and donations from our kind supporters we wouldn’t have been able to lay on such an awesome event! Overall the day was a massive success and we can’t wait for the edit, which should be out over the next few days. Remember the aim of this community event is to lobby the council for better free “Urban Facility’s” for the young adults and namely protecting the Oasis Skate Park in Swindon, which is under siege from developers.
Thanks to all the parents, friends, family and spectators who came to watch, cheer on and support the Urban Rider Games. Without you all it wouldn’t have been such an epic day. Another quick thank you to our media partners the Swindon Advertiser who provided full coverage, goodie bags and also newspapers on the day and thank you to Swindon Link for their kind media coverage of the entire event to.
