So the West Swindon outdoor skate park is now officially open. It met with stiff opposition as locals “Didn’t want a Skate Park on their doorstep”. Finally a suitable location and home was found for the new skate park over by the “Kids About” building or as its also known in Swindon – “The old Renault building”.
Although the park is open to the public, there are two events for its official opening. One is this week, on Thursday the 30th of July at 11am where there will be an official opening by the mayor of Swindon. Everyone is welcome to attend. Then on the 23rd of August there will be a real opening for the riders with a skate jam.

Swindon borough council has asked if any of the local riders or parents wish to be “friends” of the new West Swindon Park. This job is voluntary and would mean you were in charge of checking on the park and letting the council know if the park is being looked after, if the trees need cutting, grass needed cutting etc.
The council are just looking for people to help look after the park to keep it clean, safe and fun for years to come. If this sounds like a job for you then let Gale Light know via email Glight@swindon.gov.uk
